AI in Chit: Dot, item notes and receipt checks

Published

Everything basic in Chit works without AI. Receipts are read on your phone, and splitting, groups and settling up never wait for a server. AI adds three things on top: Dot, an assistant that knows your records; notes that explain what the items on a receipt are; and, with Chit Pro, a second look at lines the phone couldn’t read clearly.

Ask Dot

Dot answers questions about your own spending, in plain words:

Its figures come from the same sums as the rest of the app, and answers can include a small chart or table. Dot can also explain how to do something in Chit.

Record it in a sentence

Tell Dot what happened, such as “Taxi yesterday, £23, split with Lin”, and it prepares the record as a card. Nothing changes until you tap Apply. The same goes for splitting a receipt differently, changing a category or recording a payment: Dot proposes, you decide.

Dot wherever you are

The dotted face in the corner of the main screens opens Dot with that screen in mind, so on a receipt you can simply ask “how was this split?”. In a chat with friends or a group, type @ and choose Dot to bring it in. Everyone sees that it has joined, and when someone asks it something, the answer goes to everyone. Any proposed change goes only to the person who asked. You can remove Dot from a chat at any time.

What’s on the receipt

Receipts shorten names to fit the paper, so TSC FINEST CHDR means little at a glance. Item notes say what something is in a line or two. Notes that other people have already brought in are there for everyone. With Chit Pro, the ones still missing are written for each receipt as you check it.

A second look at unclear lines

A crumpled or faded receipt can leave a line or two in doubt, or a total that doesn’t add up. With Chit Pro, AI reads those lines again from the photo. Only small strips around the doubtful lines are sent, never the whole photo. A fix is kept only if the receipt adds up at least as well as before. Fixed lines are shown in yellow for you to check, and each one can be undone.

Privacy and limits

AI can get things wrong, so check what matters before you rely on it. More detail is in the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.
